Ange Postecoglou responds as Nottingham Forest fans turn on former Tottenham boss

Nottingham Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou has responded after being subjected to 'sacked in the morning' chants by his own supporters. The 60-year-old's dreadful beginning to life in the City Ground dugout hit rock bottom after sections of the home faithful turned on the former Tottenham Hotspur manager.

Forest's quest for a European victory continued as Danish underdogs FC Midtjylland emerged 3-2 victors against the Premier League outfit. It was when Valdemar Andreasen netted the third to establish a 3-1 advantage that the fury was aimed at the head coach, who only replaced Nuno Espirito Santo on September 9.

Since his appointment by Forest, it is now six matches without a victory and they could tumble into the drop zone heading into the October international break, should results work against them and they suffer defeat away at Newcastle United.

Postecoglou was predictably dejected in his post-match discussion with TNT Sports and was forthright in his response to the chants from the home supporters.

"I heard it. They're fans and they're entitled to their opinion," said Postecoglou.

"Nothing surprises me in football anymore. We've got to keep going, there's no hiding in the sport we're in, we've got to keep our heads up and we've got a game against Newcastle, we have to make sure we are up for that."

He added: "I don't think I've seen anything (that) they're not on board or trying to implement. If we're not dealing with these key moments which we haven't been in games, we're not going to win the games we're going to win.

"Really disappointing, really, really poor goals we conceded in the first-half and allowed the opposition to get comfortable into the game. It's been the story of our last few games, key moments let ourselves down.

"We let ourselves down in key moments in games, we knew the threats they provided, it wasn't organisationally, it was those moments we haven't shown the same desire and determination as the opposition.

"We allow refereeing decisions to decide the outcome but it shouldn't even get to that.

"We should've handled the situation better. Progress is us winning games of football, we haven't done that, football has been compelling at times. But you've got to win games of football and that's what we've got to do."

Forest fell behind to Ousmane Diao's maiden strike of the campaign after 18 minutes before summer acquisition Dan Ndoye drew level four minutes later.

The scores were level fleetingly, however, as Mads Bech restored the visitors' advantage just two minutes afterwards.

Andreasen added a third with two minutes remaining as Chris Wood's injury-time spot-kick proved insufficient to spark a dramatic comeback.
