Chelsea get new Nicolas Jackson to Newcastle transfer timeline amid Alexander Isak update

Send Push

Newcastle United are reportedly holding off on making a formal approach for Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson until the future of Alexander Isak becomes clearer, according to the PA news agency.

Isak’s situation has dominated headlines on Tyneside in recent days. The Sweden international is currently not training with Eddie Howe’s squad after Liverpool’s £110million bid was rejected.

He is now unlikely to feature in the Magpies’ Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday, and his absence has left a cloud of uncertainty over Newcastle’s attacking plans just days before the new campaign kicks off.

The Magpies have already suffered one setback in the transfer market after missing out on Benjamin Sesko, with the RB Leipzig striker opting instead to join Manchester United.

That blow appeared to leave Newcastle short of options up front, but Chelsea’s apparent willingness to part ways with Jackson has presented Howe with a possible solution to the stalemate.

Jackson, who scored 10 Premier League goals last season, endured a frustrating run between December and May in which he found the net just once in the league.

His mixed form was compounded on Friday when he trained alone and was omitted from the squad that defeated Bayer Leverkusen in a pre-season friendly.

The Senegal international’s standing at Stamford Bridge has weakened further following the summer arrivals of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town andJoao Pedro from Brighton.

Both signings have pushed Jackson down Enzo Maresca's pecking order, prompting speculation that his development in west London has stalled.

Since his £30million switch from Villarreal in 2023, Jackson’s time at Chelsea has been marked by flashes of brilliance and tireless running, earning pockets of admiration from supporters.

Yet those moments have been offset by periods of inconsistency, questionable decision-making in front of goal, and a temperament that has occasionally drawn criticism.

For Newcastle, the decision to move for Jackson will likely hinge entirely on whether Isak stays. If their star striker departs, the Chelsea man could quickly become a leading target.

But if Isak remains, the Magpies may bide their time, leaving Jackson’s future hanging in the balance as the transfer window ticks on.
