Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, Asia Cup 2025: Predicted playing 11, head-to-head record, match time and squad details

SL vs BAN Asia Cup 2025 Playing 11 Prediction: Bangladesh will face a critical Group B match against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup at Abu Dhabi on Friday, a game likely to decide which teams progress to the next stage. Both teams not only need a win but must also aim for a significant margin of victory due to Afghanistan’s strong net run rate of 4.700. Bangladesh currently stands at 1.001.
The match follows Bangladesh’s seven-wicket win over Hong Kong on Wednesday, where captain Litton Das anchored the chase with a composed 59. Despite the win, concerns remain over the bowling unit, particularly with Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hossain, who proved expensive despite picking up wickets.

Sri Lanka strategy for today's game

Led by Charith Asalanka, Sri Lanka have built a well-rounded side suited for UAE conditions. Their top order features Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, and Kusal Perera, supported by middle-order hitters like Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka, and Kamindu Mendis.

Janith Liyanage, recalled after three years, adds further depth, especially after scoring an unbeaten 70 in Zimbabwe. His inclusion alongside Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne strengthens Sri Lanka’s seam-bowling all-rounder options.

The return of Wanindu Hasaranga from a hamstring injury boosts the spin attack, which already includes Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage. Matheesha Pathirana provides pace variety to complete the bowling unit.

Bangladesh's top order performance

Bangladesh will depend on the form of Litton Das and Tawhid Hridoy, while hoping Mustafizur Rahman can be more effective with the new ball. Hridoy, speaking after the win against Hong Kong, said the team’s focus remains on winning matches rather than worrying about run rate.

"We could have finished the game earlier but we stuck to the demand of the situation. Our mentality is to always win," Hridoy said.

"We want to beat Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, so run-rate isn't what we are worried about at this stage. We don't want to complicate matters so early in the tournament," he added.

Commenting on conditions, he said, "The ball was gripping. We are not used to playing on this type of wicket but we adapted well."
