U.S. President Donald Trump called for prayers for conservative commentator Charlie Kirk after he was shot at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
"We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Kirk was giving a presentation when shots were fired, a university spokesperson told NBC News. "To the best of our knowledge he was hit and taken with his security team away from the premises," the spokesperson said.
Turning Point USA also confirmed the unfortunate event.
Fox News reported that Kirk was hospitalized following the incident.
FBI Director Kash Patel said on X, "We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected." He added that FBI agents would be on the scene quickly.
More details are awaited.
