If you thought Indian web series had peaked, think again. Some of the biggest fan-favourite shows are making a return, and they’re coming back with bigger plots, darker twists, and fresher faces. From middle-class spies juggling double lives to small-town gangsters fighting for thrones, these series have defined streaming in India. Now, with new seasons on the horizon, Prime Video and Netflix are ready to pull us right back into their addictive worlds. Here’s what’s next.
The Family Man (Prime Video)
The Family Man became an instant hit because of how relatable and thrilling it felt. At the centre is Srikant Tiwari, played brilliantly by Manoj Bajpayee, who struggles to balance his duties as an intelligence agent with his family life. After two successful seasons, season 3 is almost here. Darshan Kumar recently revealed in an interview with Zoom TV that his character, Major Sameer, is set to raise the stakes, stepping into full mastermind mode. Joining the cast are Jaideep Ahlawat and Nimrat Kaur as formidable new villains. Expect Srikant to face fresh threats against India while also tackling his complicated family dynamics. The wait won’t be long — the season is expected within the next couple of months.
Panchayat (Prime Video)
Panchayat is proof that you don’t need explosions or complex conspiracies to win hearts. This gem stands out for its simplicity, following the story of an engineering graduate who ends up with a government job in a rural village. What seems dull at first turns into a surprisingly heartwarming and hilarious ride. The charm lies in its relatable characters, played by actors like Neena Gupta and Raghubir Yadav, who breathe authenticity into every scene. Mirzapur (Prime Video)
Mirzapur has been the crown jewel of gritty Indian thrillers since its debut in 2018. Packed with power struggles, betrayals, and unforgettable characters, it follows the rise of Guddu Pandit, played by Ali Fazal, who finally claimed Mirzapur’s throne in season 3. But holding onto power won’t be easy, especially with new enemies lurking. The fate of Kaleen Bhaiya, Pankaj Tripathi’s legendary character, remains a mystery after the jaw-dropping finale, leaving fans desperate for answers. Kota Factory (Netflix)
Kota Factory is the black-and-white mirror of India’s intense coaching culture. Set in Kota, the country’s exam prep capital, it follows Vaibhav (Mayur More) and his struggles to crack the IIT entrance exam while battling loneliness and immense pressure. Unlike most student dramas, this one doesn’t glamorise — it shows the grind with brutal honesty but still manages to stay heartfelt. With Jitendra Kumar’s iconic Jeetu Bhaiya guiding students, the show has found a loyal audience. Netflix dropped season 3 in June 2024 after much anticipation, continuing its honest portrayal of ambition, self-worth, and survival. Fans are already speculating about what comes next, and going by its cult following, Kota Factory isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Season 4 is in the works, but no official release date has been revealed yet.
