GST 2.0: Renault cars get cheaper, prices slashed by up to Rs 96,000; Check which models benefit the most with new price list

Send Push
Festive season just got better for car buyers. Renault India has announced massive price cuts across its entire line-up, extending the full benefit of the new GST 2.0 regime directly to customers. The popular models, Kwid, Triber and Kiger, have now become more affordable by up to Rs 96,395.

What’s New?

With the revised pricing, Renault’s entry-level hatchback Kwid now starts at Rs 4,29,900 (ex-showroom). The versatile Triber has been priced from Rs 5,76,300, while the compact SUV Kiger also kicks off at Rs 5,76,300.

As per a report by moneycontrol, The updated prices will be applicable on all deliveries from 22 September, the first day of Navaratri. However, bookings are already open at the new reduced rates across dealerships.

Why the Price Cut?

Under the new GST 2.0 rules, all internal combustion engine (ICE) cars are slotted into just two slabs: 18% and 40%. Small cars, hatchbacks, compact sedans, and compact SUVs fall under the 18% category, while mid-size cars, large SUVs and luxury models are taxed at 40%.

Renault has gained significantly, as its entire portfolio qualifies for the 18% slab, leading to sizeable savings for buyers.

Previously, cars faced 28% GST plus a compensation cess of 1%–22%, depending on size and engine capacity. This meant that SUVs and premium cars were taxed heavily, sometimes touching a staggering 50% in total. GST 2.0 has removed the cess, streamlining the tax structure.

For electric vehicles (EVs), the GST rate remains unchanged at 5%, while hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs) have been reduced from 12% to 5%.

Renault is not alone in this move. Tata Motors has also rolled out price cuts of up to Rs 1,55,000 across its passenger vehicle line-up, ensuring that the benefits of GST 2.0 are passed on to buyers.

With the new simplified tax structure, car ownership in India is set to become more affordable. For Renault buyers, the GST 2.0 reform brings festival cheer early, making hatchbacks, MPVs and SUVs much more value-for-money.
