Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised U.S. President Donald Trump for his leadership in the ongoing peace efforts in Gaza.
Posting on X, Modi said, "We welcome President Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza make decisive progress."
He added: "Indications of the release of hostages mark a significant step forward."
Modi also reaffirmed India’s stance on the conflict, stating: "India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace."
The comments come as Washington is pushing for a breakthrough in the Gaza crisis. There are hopes that the release of hostages and renewed negotiations between the warring sides could lead to a ceasefire.
Trump has ordered Israel to stop bombing the Gaza Strip after Hamas said it had accepted some elements of his plan to end the nearly two-year war and return all the remaining hostages taken in the October 7, 2023, attack.
Hamas said it was willing to release the hostages and hand over power to other Palestinians, but that other aspects of the plan require further consultations among Palestinians.
International mediators, including Egypt and Qatar, have welcomed these developments.
With the situation remaining tense, world leaders are closely watching the progress of diplomatic efforts, hoping that a lasting solution can be reached soon.
