Mumbai: The CSMT Railway Police have registered two separate cheating cases where persons were duped with false promises of railway jobs. In one case, four accused persons allegedly collected Rs 50.45 lakh from eight persons by conducting fake training sessions and providing bogus offer letters. In the other case, a woman was defrauded of Rs 5.25 lakh after a casual meeting with the accused at CSMT station.
Victims Promised Railway Jobs Under Sports Quota Scheme
According to the first FIR, Chinchpokli resident Vijay Unde, 52, was informed by his friend about vacancies under the railway’s sports quota. The friend introduced him to Sheetal Mehta and her brother Chintan Shah, who claimed to have railway contacts. They demanded Rs 50,000 for a clerk’s post, payable in instalments.
After an initial payment to Shah’s Bank of Baroda account, Unde received an offer letter in his son’s name. However, Shah allegedly died soon after, and Unde was asked to transfer the remaining sum to accounts belonging to Karan Singh and Ranjit Singh. Eventually, the calls stopped, and Unde realised he had been cheated.
