Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) has sought detailed information from the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) regarding the volume of legacy waste at the Adampur dumping site and the fire control measures in place.
This directive comes in the wake of ongoing proceedings before the National Green Tribunal (NGT). In a letter addressed to the BMC commissioner, the PCB’s regional officer requested data on several key aspects, including solid waste management practices, environmental clearances, waste processing and disposal systems, the current volume of legacy waste and fire prevention mechanisms.
The municipal body has been given a deadline of seven days to furnish this information.

Meanwhile, action is underway in the Bhadbhada area to reclaim land encroached upon in the Upper Lake (Bada Talab) catchment zone. Following the NGT’s directives in a case (Case No. 77/2020), the BMC has completed fencing of the cleared land and has begun plantation drives. According to the officials, in compliance with the tribunal’s orders, the civic body is committed to removing all identified encroachments within the next three months.
The NGT has directed both the collector and the commissioner to ensure the removal of these encroachments in the Bhadbhada catchment area and to submit a compliance report thereafter.
NGT informed about steps taken under AMRUT schemes Officials, including Bhopal collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh and BMC commissioner Harendra Narayan joined a recent hearing before the central zone bench of the NGT via video conference.
The corporation informed the tribunal about steps taken under the AMRUT 1.0 and AMRUT 2.0 schemes, such as laying sewer lines, setting up sewage treatment plants and providing household connections to prevent wastewater from entering the lake.
BMC commissioner inspects landfill site
BMC Commissioner Harendra Narayan on Thursday inspected the Adampur landfill site and directed officials to expedite legacy waste removal, RDF transportation and sale, and activate the MRF facility swiftly. He expressed dissatisfaction over slow progress and instructed the use of municipal resources to be reimbursed by the concerned company.
Narayan also ordered stricter enforcement of spot fines, better cleanliness on central verges, dividers, and rotaries, and mandatory green netting at construction sites. During his visit to the plantation site, he stressed removing weeds and maintaining the plants properly.
