Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Starting Friday, two-wheeler riders in Indore without helmets will be denied petrol at all filling stations. In a decisive move to improve road safety, District Collector and Magistrate Asheesh Singh has issued a prohibitory order barring petrol pumps from refueling helmetless riders.
To ensure implementation, a meeting was convened on Thursday at the Collector’s office with petrol pump owners and representatives of major Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs). They were explicitly instructed not to supply fuel to any two-wheeler rider who is not wearing a helmet.
According to the order, the restriction will be enforced across the district from August 1 to September 29. Any violation will attract legal action under Section 223 of the Indian Justice Code 2023. The directive does, however, make exceptions for medical emergencies and other urgent situations.

To reinforce compliance, the district administration has warned that action will be taken against petrol pump operators if they are found violating the rule. Monitoring will be done via CCTV cameras, and police teams will ensure constant supervision. Additionally, riders creating disturbances at the pumps will also face strict action.
The directive was discussed in detail during the Thursday meeting, attended by DCP Traffic Arvind Tiwari, ADM Roshan Rai, District Supply Controller M.L. Maru, RTO Pradeep Sharma, and officials from various departments. Representatives from major OMCs, including Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, HPCL, Nayara, and Reliance, along with sales officers and assistant supply officers, were present.
All petrol pump operators were instructed to strictly follow the order from Friday onward, with zero tolerance for violations.
