Hair Pigmentation Therapy: A Chinese actress has created a buzz on social media these days after she revealed that she is taking injections to turn her gray hair black again. 37-year-old actress Guo Tong posted a video on China's TikTok version, Douyin, in which she revealed that she has started a course of injections that promise to turn her gray hair into a natural color.

She explained in the video that her white hair is not genetic, but was caused by stressful lifestyle and mental pressure. Guo Tong said, "My white hair is not from genes. It is caused by irregular lifestyle, emotional stress and mental pressure, which affected my hair." She further said that she has now completed her tenth treatment. She said that many people ask if it works. "I was on a business trip for three weeks before, so I missed three sessions. Also, I had dyed my hair black because of filming, so the results are not visible yet. But the doctor has taken photos to track the progress: some new roots are slowly growing and one or two hairs have started to turn black."

The actress also said that she started this treatment because it was disturbing her mentally, but she did not share the cost. She says, "I thought it was better to leave it to the professionals rather than worrying every day whether my grey hair will grow or not."

How does this treatment work?

According to doctors at Shanghai Yueyang Hospital, the injection is a form of vitamin B12, adenosylcobalamin, which is based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It is believed that B12 promotes the production of melanin. Melanin is a natural pigment in our body that controls the colour of hair, skin and eyes. Graying of hair is a normal part of ageing and is caused by the gradual failure of cells called melanocytes.

This treatment involves regular injections, which are given every week and it lasts for three to six months. According to Dr. Munir Somji, in some cases exosomes are used in the head and beard hair through micro-needling, which activates melanocyte stem cells and can restore color to the hair. However, many experts say that there is no scientific and comprehensive evidence of this yet. Light darkening of hair has been observed in some limited cases, but it cannot be considered reliable for everyone.

How do you get the result?

This means that this treatment may work for some people, but it is not guaranteed that everyone's white hair will turn black again. Experts say that if you are considering this treatment, then use it only with the advice of a doctor and caution. So if you also want to blacken your white hair, then know that this method exists, but so far it is an expensive option that works only in a few cases and is not considered safe or certified for everyone.
