Alan Shearer spent the weekend waiting to board a flight back to the United Kingdom. The Match of the Day pundit missed Newcastle United's clash against Barcelona in the Champions League earlier in the week due to an event in the United States.
On Thursday, Shearer jetted off to Kansas to attend a Premier League fan festival, in collaboration with NBC Sports. The Magpies legend was a special guest at the two-day event that took place at 'KC Live!' in the Kansas City Power and Light District.
While in the States, Shearer and former Tottenham and England striker Jermaine Defoe had a tour of Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs, with club legend Christian "The Nigerian Nightmare" Okoye. The English top-flight's all-time top goalscorer enjoyed his break, but his 'disgusting' end to the weekend left a sour taste in the mouth.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer went on a furious rant about his experience with 'American Airlines'. The 55-year-old said: "I’m still stuck in America! I got one flight from Kansas to Dallas. I’m going to have to apologise for my swearing because I am so f***ing angry, it’s untrue [laughs].
"Ah, god. Where do I start? So, yesterday finished– I’m discombobulated, I don’t even know what day it is! I don’t know what time it is or anything. I got a flight from Kansas to Dallas. I was meant to get on the Dallas flight an hour later to Heathrow, and we, American Airlines it was, stood and waited at the gate for an hour.
"I was thinking, ‘okay, probably going to miss my connecting flight from Heathrow to Newcastle, but that’s fine. I’ll jump in the car and get across to Kings Cross or something like that'.
"Two hours, we’re still waiting to get on the flight. Apparently, there was a problem with the seats, and then there was a problem with the air conditioning, but then we got on the flight. I’m thinking, ‘okay, fine, at least we’re on the flight.'"
Shearer added: "Two f***ing hours later, we’re still sat on the– I watched a film! I watched a full film while we were still delayed. And then he says there’s still a problem with the paperwork. Then the pilot had timed out or something like that. Pilot timed out!
"They had to get another pilot, and then 45 minutes later, we got the call, we’re all going to have to get off the plane. The flight has been cancelled. Just before midnight.
"Three, four hundred people getting off that flight, and the poor women with their young children. And I have to say, the lack of communication and the lack of effort from the American Airlines staff was disgusting. It really was.
"I mean, I was okay. I could Google where a hotel was, and could jump in a taxi. I met two lovely blokes. Business partners. Lawyers. They sort of grabbed hold of me and said, ‘We’ve booked ourselves into a hotel about seven or eight miles away, you can jump in the taxi if you want?'
"One was a Spurs fan, and one was a Brentford fan, and they were lovely guys. I've actually just watched the Newcastle game with them downstairs. Two English guys, yeah. They had been in a conference."
On Newcastle's goalless draw to Bournemouth, Shearer added: "I was thinking, come on, give me a bit of excitement. A good result at Bournemouth, but it was a pretty drab and dire game, wasn’t it? It was awful."
Gary Lineker agreed, adding: "It wasn’t great. I thought, actually, the first half an hour was all right. It was quite end-to-end, and it had quite a good pace to it. And then it just kind of petered out to nothing.
"Do you know what I was thinking? Alan’s going to do this podcast in a minute. Bournemouth are going to score. You know, right near the end, they got a free kick on the edge of the box."

Shearer replied: "Terrible decision, the handball?" Lineker said: "The handball. It was ludicrous, wasn’t it? And they wouldn’t have been able to turn it over because it was not a penalty. It was just outside.
"And I was thinking, Alan’s going to go absolutely ballistic if this goes in. I mean, he blasted it at him from about a yard. He had his hands by his side. It was just ludicrous."
Shearer joked that he wouldn't have appeared on this week's episode of the podcast if Bournemouth had scored. He said: "I would have told you where to go if that had gone in and we had have been beaten 1-0. I just wouldn’t have come on!"
