Alejandro Garnacho was left ‘unable to move’ after his first Chelsea training session. The Argentine winger is already hard at work following his £40m switch from Manchester United.
But those expecting Garnacho to have an instant impact at Stamford Bridge might have to bide their time. The forward did not have a pre-season at Old Trafford ahead of his move having been exiled by Ruben Amorim.
And that has left him somewhat off the pace when it comes to his fitness. After his first training session with the Blues, Garnacho revealed he was already feeling the effects.
Speaking to a member of the Blues’ media team, Garnacho said: “Can’t move my legs now man." He added: "I sprinted in the last one.”
Garnacho was left out of the Argentina squad for the current international break so Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca will be hoping that he can build his fitness over the next few weeks. Explaining what he could bring to the Blues, the Italian coach said: “When we are looking for a winger, we are looking for someone who is good one-v-one and who can attack and create something.

“Jamie Gittens [signed from Borussia Dortmund this summer] is that profile, and we will see with Garnacho. He is a good winger in one-versus-one and he can create things. This is the way I see things.”
One star who was however called up was Garnacho’s international and now club teammate Enzo Fernandez. And it appears that the midfielder was very keen to see the move get over the line.
“I spoke to Enzo during the summer because he had been asking a lot of times, ‘When are you coming, when are you coming?,” Garnacho said.

“I kept saying that he had to be patient, and we would play together. He texted me when I joined to say congratulations, and I can’t wait to see him and play together. I had to be patient too, but now I can’t wait to get started.”
Should Garnacho get up to speed as planned, he could potentially make his debut for the Blues in just over a week’s time. The Blues travel to Brentford next Saturday, where they will aim to continue their unbeaten start to the campaign.
He will be made to wait for his home debut though - Chelsea’s next outing at Stamford Bridge not coming until September 27 against Brighton. The Blues take on Bayern Munich, Garnacho’s former club Manchester United and Lincoln City away from home before then.
