Alisson set to miss eight games as Liverpool injury update emerges

Liverpool are set to be without Alisson for EIGHT games after details of his injury layoff emerged. The goalkeeper had to be subbed off during Tuesday's 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray in the Champions League after injuring his hamstring.

Alisson, 33, is now expected to be sidelined until after November's international break, the Athletic report. The run of eight games that he'll be absent for begins with Saturday's trip to Chelsea.

Liverpool will then host Manchester United at Anfield following this month's international break, during which Alisson will also miss two games for Brazil. The Reds play Eintracht Frankfurt, Brentford, Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup and Aston Villa before their mouth-watering clash with Real Madrid on November 4.

Five days later, Liverpool clash with Manchester City in the Premier League. Their first game after the November set of internationals is at home to Nottingham Forest on November 22.

In the meantime, new £25million signing Giorgi Mamardashvili will be called upon. The Georgian made his debut during the recent 2-1 win against Southampton that earned Liverpool a place in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

But he was unable to help Arne Slot's side come from behind in Turkey after his forced introduction. Alisson picked up the injury just before the hour mark, with Galatasaray leading 1-0 thanks to a Victor Osimhen penalty.

It was after denying Osimhen a second goal that the 33-year-old was seen in pain. Post-match, Slot admitted: "If one of our players is on the floor nine times out of 10 I fear the worst and with the worst I mean he cannot continue and that is what happened with Alisson. He will not be able to play Saturday that is 99.9 per cent (certain), although I think it is 100 per cent."

Liverpool haven't made an announcement on Alisson's injury. Slot is expected to shed light on the situation during his press conference on Friday morning.

The Premier League champions will be aiming to get back to winning ways at Stamford Bridge, having lost their last two games. Slot could also be without Hugo Ekitike, who was also forced off in the second half.

"He felt something when he had to reach for the ball," Slot said of Ekitike. "I think we all know which one it was when we were trying to force something. I think at that moment in time, on the other side there was someone on the floor as well, so the referee blew his whistle and I wasn't even thinking we had an injury, but Hugo felt something.

"After the game, that's always the difficult thing with these moments when players feel like it is not too bad, but when you just walk around it is something different than when you make a sprint or have to shoot on target. He said he couldn't continue so we had to take him off. Let's see how he is for the weekend."
