An American has shared his honest verdict after trying a Cornish pasty for the first time, and his answer has Cornish people praising him.
Brits are known to have a special love for savoury piesand pastries, including the popular sausage rolls, chicken pies, and the Cornish pasty. This latter pasty is particularly associated with Cornwall, where it's seen as the regional dish, but has spread all over the British Isles. In 2011,the Cornish pasty was awarded Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status by the European Commission, which means that all pasties being sold under this name needs to be shaped like a 'D' and crimped on one side, while also being filled with beef, swede (called turnip in Cornwall), potato and onion, with a light seasoning of salt and pepper.
Because of this, it's clear to see why the Cornish people are so protective over their beloved pasty, and why it's so important to get it right. But naturally, everyone will have different opinions on which places makes the best pasty.

But if you've never tried a Cornish pasty before, it can be difficult to know where to go. However, one American named Kalani seems to have gotten the locationright, as he decided to go all the way to Cornwall before trying his first ever Cornish pasty. And he was soon amazed by the taste.
Taking to TikTok, Kalani decided to document the moment. At the start of the video, he said: "Today I'm here in Cornwall to have my first ever Cornish pasty. And we're at Philp's Famous Pasties, let's go get one."
In the next clip, he was seen unwrapping him pasty from its paper bag, noting that it was 'nice and warm' as well as bigger than he'd expected. He then goes in for his first bite.
He noted that in each bite he took, he got a bite of a different element of the pasty. In the first bite, he tasted the potatoes, and in the second bite he could taste the steak.
"Oh yeah, look at that," he said as he got to the middle part of the pasty, which had all of the ingredients fully mixed together. "That's good. I like the season in there. It's just like a good meat pie but kind of like in a pasty form."
He went on to compliment the flavour, having gotten to the mix of the onions, potato, and steak now, while also complimenting the nice pastry.
"On a day like today where the wind is a little bit chillier here, and my hat is flying," he started as his hat was seen flying off his head, "This is a really good thing for a cooler day. I like a pasty."
He went on to give the Cornish pasty a score of 8.8 out of 10. He then added: "I will say, this one is fresh, and sometimes when you get a pastry or a meat pie somewhere where they've been sitting for a while, but I think with the amount of customers they get here, they keep them fresh, keep them rolling, so big ups to them."
People soon took to the comment section of the video to share their thoughts, with many claiming that Kalani should go to other places for 'the best' Cornish pasty.
"You went to headquarters in Hayle, the best around. try a Philp's shortcrust mincemeat next they're boom," one viewer said.
"Every Cornish pastry is award winning in Cornwall, but the shops can’t say what the name of the award is," someone else said.
Another person also shared: "Cornish pasties aren't Cornish though, they were created in Devon for the miners."
"This man right here is the best American to ever step foot on our turf," someone else said.
