BREAKING Joe Cole makes bizarre Sadiq Khan joke in Chelsea star 'pickpocket' claim

Send Push

Chelsea legend Joe Cole has made a bizarre joke about Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan's record on pickpocketing while praising Moises Caicedo following the 1-0 victory over Benfica in the Champions League.

He said on TNT Sport: "Me and Owen were blown away by him [Moises Caicedo]. He was just pickpocketing people which does happen in London unfortunately, Mr Khan."

Cole's comments come just a day after Khan hit back at politicians for misrepresenting crime figures in the nation's capital. The Labour Mayor explained: "We’ve seen a number of politicians here and across the globe talking down London and spreading misinformation about crime and safety in the capital.

"The evidence is clear, our approach to tackling crime and its complex causes works. It’s driving down violence right across the capital."

Among those to have criticised Khan has been US President Donald Trump. He insisted that crime in London was 'through the roof' under his leadership and that he was doing a 'terrible job'.

Khan was also not invited to attend the state banquet to welcome President Trump to the UK earlier this month. Cole's bizarre comments surrounding Khan came following a good night for Chelsea on the pitch.

The Blues picked up a 1-0 victory thanks to Richard Rios' own goal in the first half. Chelsea's evening was spoiled marginally in the late stages of the contest when Joao Pedro was sent off for a second bookable offence.

He shall miss Chelsea's next Champions League clash against Ajax at Stamford Bridge on October 22. The victory was Chelsea's first in the competition this season after losing to Bayern Munich in the opening fixture.
