Sauteing cabbage "adds a special flavour and texture" that you can't get with steaming or boiling. Nevertheless, to "make great cabbage", you must be cooking with a secret ingredient: vinegar.

Laura revealed: "A dash of vinegar enhances the cabbage's flavour in a way that reduces the need for added fats, like butter. You don't need much either, just half a tablespoon."

Regarding which type of vinegar to use when preparing cabbage, Laura mentioned that she prefers white wine and rice vinegar, though you could also use apple cider vinegar, reports the Express.

Ingredients
  • One tbsp of olive oil
  • Two cloves of garlic, minced
  • One head of cabbage, finely shredded
  • One tsp of salt
  • 1/4 tsp of black pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp of white wine vinegar (or any preferred vinegar)

  • In a large pan, begin by heating the oil over medium heat. Then, add the garlic and brown for one minute and the cabbage, letting it cook for around three minutes.
  • Season with salt and black pepper and give it a stir. Allow the cabbage to cook for a further five minutes or until the cabbage is tender and cooked down.
  • You'll recognise the cabbage is perfect when you spot tender pieces of browned cabbage dotted throughout the pan. For the final step, add the vinegar and cook for one minute before dishing up alongside your dinner.

Food lovers flocked to the comments section to rave about this cabbage dish. Pammy gushed: "Loving cabbage right now, this recipe was great!" A second user named Lisa penned: "Wonderful side dish and so easy! Will be a keeper for sure."

Judy then said: "This was super simple and went great with dinner tonight!," with Holly having followed: "I have never been the biggest fan of cabbage, but I gave this sauteed cabbage a try and I am now a fan! ! So delicious and easy to make!".

Christine enhanced the cabbage recipe with an additional ingredient, revealing: "I sprinkled bacon bits on the finished dish and accompanied it with loaded baked potato pierogies."
