Celebrity Traitors' Clare Balding 'seals exit' with huge blunder that infuriates stars

Send Push

It's only night one in the first series of Celebrity Traitors, but it looks like broadcaster Clare Balding has already 'infuriated' her co-stars. Not only that, it left the Faithfuls suspicious of her intentions - so has she 'sealed' her early exit from the game?

The show started off with a twist for all 19 celebs, as they were given a huge shock when they pulled up outside the castle. Instead of stepping into the warmth of the abode, they were taken on a detour to an eerie graveyard.

It was there where they were greeted by host Claudia Winkleman, who told them they had to dig their own graves. The first six to find their shields underground were told they had been given immunity from the first murder - before they knew who the Traitors and Faithfuls were.

It was just actress Celia Imrie, comedian Joe Wilkinson, ex rugby player Joe Marler as well as Charlotte, Kate and Jonathan who found their shields, and granted immunity.

Later, it was revealed that TV presenter Jonathan Ross, singer Cat Burns and comedian Alan Carrhad been chosen as the Traitors, but it was Clare who raised suspicions at the end of the episode.

Towards the end of the episode, the stars embarked on their first challenge, in which the stars had to choose whether they'd be happy to give up a shield - which makes them exempt from the first killing - or answer four questions correctly in order to win £15,000 for the prize pot.

They had just 30 minutes to try and wheel a wooden horse through four gates. Each correct answer or shield would allow them through the gate - but a blunder from Clare cost singer Charlotte Churchher immunity.

She failed to realise that pulling the lever meant locking in an answer, and believed they had various attempts at guessing. However, when she locked the lever on a random number, one of the team had to give up their shields.

Her other Faithfuls were then left suspicious of her behaviour, as Tom Daley announced: "The Traitors met last night, was the whole plan to sabotage the challenge? Clare pulling that lever is exactly what a Traitor would do."

After Clare Balding’s blunder it was Charlotte Church who stepped up and surrendered her shield - meaning she no longer has immunity.

Speaking after she realised what she had done, Clare said: "I thought we could guess lots of numbers thinking it was like a combination lock and you can try lots of numbers," she explained. "Anyway, that was it because the lever did not go up again. It was the worst mistake. It was over before we even started."

But with eyes on her, has she 'sealed' her exit before the game has barely even started - and will she be the first one out at the roundtable?
