Charli XCX hits back at 'fraud' claims after Glastonbury set hit with autotune claims

Charli XCX has hit back at claims she is a "fraud" after her Glastonbury Festival headline set was heavily criticised.

She wrote on X: "Like the idea that singing with deliberate autotune makes you a fraud or that not having a traditional band suddenly means you must not be a “real artist” is like, the most boring take ever. yawn sorry just fell asleep xx

"But to be honest… i enjoy the discourse. imo the best art is divisive and confrontational and often evolves into truly interesting culture rather than being like kind of ok, easily understood and sort of forgettable."

She then added: "really enjoying these boomer vibe comments on my glastonbury performance. it’s super fascinating to me," before thanking those who gave her five star reviews.

During her big set, Charli XCX sang her song with Icona Pop, I Love It, as well her hit viral song Apple, which Gracie Abrams acted as the Apple Girl for and danced the TikTok routine.

The singer was accused by fans of miming during her performance, where she headlined the Other stage on Saturday night, whilst Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts performed on Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage. At the same time, the Scissors Sisters were performing on the Woodsies stage - and the venue had to be shut down as there were too many people there.

Taking to Twitter/X, some fans blasted the singer. One wrote: "Oh ffs can’t watch Scissor Sisters and Charli XCX is bloody dreadful. Could literally be any random person miming. WTF for a Glastonbury Saturday night, disappointing."

Another added: "Predictable but shame nonetheless that charli xcx can't sing live #Glastonbury2025 #charlixcx FAKE." And a third said: "Charli xcx Embarressing [sic]that, turning up to walk around stage pretending to sing…"
