Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn rematch rescheduled as new date announced

Conor Benn will attempt to avenge his defeat by Chris Eubank Jr at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on November 15.

Eubank Jr outpointed his bitter rival at the same venue in April following 12 back-and-forth rounds. The pair were contracted to an immediate rematch which was initially set for September 20. But Eubank Jr insisted he would not be ready, plunging the sequel into doubt.

But a deal has now been agreed for the second fight to take place, with Benn taking to social media to say: "I was ready in September but I’ll be even more ready for November. See you soon, Chris Eubank Jr."

Benn was also considering a return to welterweight as he eyes a world title shot and had called out Mario Barrios following his draw with returning legend Manny Pacquiao last month, but will ultimately renew his rivalry with Eubank Jr.

Much of the focus before the first fight focused on Eubank Jr struggling to cut to the 160lb middleweight limit and subsequent rehydration clause, and the 35-year-old was hospitalised for two days after the fight owing to severe dehydration. The rematch is exepcted to have the same clause in place.

The first fight also rekindled memories of their fathers’ fierce dust-ups, with Chris Eubank Sr defeating Nigel Benn in November 1990 before a hard-fought draw three years later. Eubank Sr was an outspoken critic of their children renewing the rivalry 32 years on, with Eubank Jr campaigning at middleweight or super-middleweight during his career and Benn primarily a welterweight.

Eubank Jr incurred a £375,000 fine after missing the middleweight limit by half an ounce but came in under the stipulated rehydration weight of 170lbs on the day of the fight.

He was also fined £10,000 for "misuse of social media" after posting videos suggesting he had used a sauna in order to cut weight. In a statement, the British Boxing Board of Control said: "The Southern Area Council were satisfied that Mr. Eubank did in fact not use rapid weight loss methods in close proximity to his contest [with Benn]."

"The social media comments attributed to Mr. Eubank were indeed posted by him and as such were in breach of Regulation 25 and the Board's social media guidelines."
