Dani Dyer made emergency call to therapist after struggle over Strictly exit

Send Push

Dani Dyer has revealed that she reached out to her therapist as she tried to come to terms with her Strictly exit. The former Love Island star, 29, was ruled out of the BBC dance contest a week before the live show due to injury.

And now she's admitted she had to contact her therapist as she struggled to get her head around her fractured ankle. Speaking to her dad, Danny Dyer, the reality TV star revealed her struggles, saying she couldn't leave the house at first.

Dani said the situation was a real test to her mental health. After the EastEnders actor told his daughter nobody likes to see her so down, she said she kept thinking she may have done something wrong for the bad news to come.

She went on on the Live and Let Dyer podcast: "I spoke to Chris the therapist... I haven't spoke to him in years because I've actually been pretty stable."

Dani added she has been in an amazing space, but she picked up the phone to run it by the therapist. "He just put things into perspective for me," she confessed.

She said watching the live show was hard, but she is pleased Nikita Guzman was able to get a new partner in Amber Davies.

Danny, known for his tough-guy roles in Hollywood, also discussed the incident which led to his daughter's exit. He commented: "It was a freak f***ing accident."

Dani added: "Basically I fell and rolled my ankle and initially I heard a noise but I thought, 'I think it'll be fine', but I came home on the weekend and iced it all, and they sent me for the MRI and it came back that there was a hairline fracture on my ankle, but it was my ligaments.

"They said to me, the physio, if you have a grade one sprain, we can work with a grade one sprain, but one side of my ankle had a grade two sprain and the other side had a grade one.

"We went and got a second opinion, see the doctor, and I was like 'What can we do? Physically do? Can you jab it, there's got to be something'."

And she also admitted that a chat with the show's bosses saw them advise her to withdraw from the competition. She continued: "When I spoke to everyone at Strictly they said, 'Listen Dani, we have to withdraw you, it's just not worth it, because you're going to be in so much pain.'"
