Donald Trump moaned he had "had enough" of being "shown beautiful things" by the end of his state visit to the UK, the Mirror understands.
And the US President added that he had promised the King he would not "drag" him around Washington's monuments when he makes a return visit to the US. The remarks have emerged as Trump effectively ended the UK's post-state visit honeymoon yesterday by attacking London Mayor Sadiq Khan, claiming the capital had been "so changed" under Sir Sadiq’s leadership and was heading for "shariah law."
President Trump is understood to have made the remarks during a behind closed doors event for tech industry leaders at Chequers during the state visit.
"I've had a great time, I've seen so many beautiful things," he's said to have joked to tech chiefs. "I've seen a lot of beautiful things. Like, a lot. I was taken round Windsor Castle and seen some beautiful things. I’ve been taken round Chequers and seen some beautiful things. I have seen every memorial and they’re beautiful but now I’ve had enough"
It's understood he then joked that he'd told the King: "You know what? I'm going to treat you to a state dinner, you can come to the US and I'm not going to drag you round the Lincoln Memorial. You can just have dinner and then go to bed."
UK officials and No10 breathed a sigh of relief when the state visit passed without incident, and with the President seemingly on his best behaviour.
As well as the military guard welcome and horse drawn carriage ride at Windsor Castle, a specially curated exhibition was prepared for President Trump of historical items related to the United States. The following day at Chequers, he was given a tour of the house’s Churchill archive.
Lib Dem culture spokesperson Max Wilkinson said: "Well, that's gratitude for you! Perhaps next time we should offer him a tour of the local spray tan studio and a Happy Meal."

The Mirror approached the White House for comment.
President Trump launched an extraordinary rant against Europe yesterday at the United Nations in New York, telling leaders: “Your countries are going to hell.”
In a speech to the UN's 80th annual General Assembly, he said immigration was ruining European countries and urged Keir Starmer to open more oil fields in the North Sea, as he declared global warming a "hoax." He doubled down on his feud with Sadiq Khan, making a baseless allegation that the London Mayor was trying to impose Sharia law in the capital.
Just days after returning from a UK state visit that saw him visit London, Windsor Castle and Chequers, the President said: "I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible, terrible mayor, and it's been changed, it's been so changed. Now they want to go to sharia law. But you are in a different country, you can't do that."
A spokesperson for Sir Sadiq said: “We are not going to dignify his appalling and bigoted comments with a response.
“London is the greatest city in the world, safer than major US cities, and we’re delighted to welcome the record number of US citizens moving here.”
