Ian Katz, chief content officer at Channel 4, said: “Donald J Trump loves making history. So onWednesday Channel 4 will do just that: we’ll show what we believe to be the longest uninterrupted reel of untruths, falsehoods and distortions ever broadcast on television.

“We hope it will remind viewers how disorientating and dangerous the world becomes when the most powerful man on earth shows little regard for the truth. And if President Trump cares to watch along after the state banquet, he may even clear up a few misconceptions.”

Channel 4 will also air the second episode of The Donald Trump Show, a three-part documentary from filmmakers 72 Films, which uses news footage from TV, podcasts and social media to tell the story of the last nine months of the 79-year-old’s presidency as an unfolding soap opera.

The Kingis to host the US president and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump from September 17 to 19 at Windsor Castle, where they will be entertained with a ceremonial welcome and state banquet.

The trip will be Mr Trump’s second state visit to the UK, an unprecedented gesture towards a US president, after a previous trip in 2019.

During his first state visit to the UK, thousands of people turned out on the streets in London in opposition, and protests are also expected next week.

The Stop Trump Coalition is to stage a mass demonstration in central London on the first day of the trip, with a further protest planned near Windsor Castle.

It has called for the visit to be cancelled, accusing the US president of "denying climate science" and "siding with war criminals - in Israel, Russia and beyond".

The source said: "Any sort of disruption of his visit by demonstrators, even if it is just spray paint, would be a coup for them so everything will be as tight as it can possibly be.

"The security services have been looking very carefully for some time for anything to suggest that someone has got a plan that they are trying to implement. That will include known obsessed individuals or any indications of a problem from an unknown source."

The US president's stay with the King and Queen for the first day of his two-day visit on Wednesday will have no public-facing element, making it easier to police. Trump will be treated to a flypast by the Red Arrows as well as UK and US F-35 military jets on the lawn at Windsor Castle, as well as a special military ceremony.

On the second day, the president and first lady will depart Windsor Castle for Chequers, the prime minister's official country residence in Buckinghamshire. Trump's motorcade, which includes two identical limousines, will be transported ahead of the president by United States Air Force transport aircraft.
