Ed Sheeran has confirmed he is leaving Britain for America, citing his frequent tours as a reason for leaving the United Kingdom behind. But fans believe they know the "real reason" the Lego House hitmaker is leaving the country behind. Ed Sheeran will release new album, Play, on September 12, and has since announced he will be leaving the country.

Though fans may be excited for Sheeran's eighth studio album, he used the interviews promoting the album to confirm he would be leaving the country. Sheeran, 34, confirmed: "I’m just about to move to America." Though he says the reason for the move is for touring purposes, fans believe there is another reason at play.

A post to the r/Music Reddit page saw fans speculate on what the other reasons for Sheeran's move could be. Sheeran added: "I feel like I might be the only person moving to America.

"I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there."

Fans are now suggesting Sheeran's move to America being made permanent is more a comment on the state of the United Kingdom.

One person suggested: "Sounds like he's moving his family to the US since he is touring the US so I guess it is easier to go back home while on tour."

Another added: "Honestly never understood these kind of announcements. Musicians like him are constantly touring the globe and are barely home. Do fans really care where musicians are based?

"I would have guessed he had a home in LA before this announcement. He's rich enough to fly back and forth to the UK every week privately."

A third shared: "He and family decided to live in a Malibu beach house while he works for a year. Easier to see them and an adventure for them all. And he can buy a cool house like most people buy a cool hat."

But others believe it's the "pessimistic feeling" around Britain that's turned Sheeran away from his beloved Suffolk.

One fan wrote: "I was went to his gig at Portman road and he talked for about five minutes about how he loved living in Suffolk and how after living all over the world it was the only place that made sense to him and wouldn't want to leave.

"I get it though being a big star wanting to continue his success. There's a very pessimistic feeling around Britain these days."

Another fan who claimed to have met Sheeran at their workplace recalled a story the songwriter told of preferring Brooklyn to most parts of the US.

They wrote: "He was at my job in Brooklyn last year (and also showed up randomly back in April March which shocked me), anyway he told us a story of how he lived in Brooklyn for a year, it’s his favourite borough, and if I remember correctly he said it’s his second home emotionally.

"He said he hated living in LA because the people were inconsiderate or superficial or something like that. The man told a lot of stories that night. I wish I got it on video."
