Gogglebox star rushed to hospital for emergency surgery

A Gogglebox star has been showered in support after having to undergo emergency surgery.

Melbourne-based TV personality Anastasia Katselas, who rose to fame on the Australian version of the show in 2015, revealed to her followers that she was rushed to hospital after being diagnosed with cancer.

Anastasia took to Instagram to share a video, saying she had undergone an emergency hysterectomy. She revealed doctors had found cancer in her uterus just days ago after concern from a smear test.

She began: “I had a little bit of a health scare, I went into hospital on Tuesday after I got diagnosed with cancer in my uterus so I had an emergency hysterectomy.

“I’m fine, I’m home now, I stayed in hospital on Tuesday, Wednesday, came home Thursday, I’m fine, just a bit sore, recovering well.”

She went on: “It was a big scare, but thank God they caught it early and I am fine. But I urge all you women, make sure that you do your pap smears regularly, don't wait, don't forget about it.

“I used to do them regularly and I think the last few years I didn’t go, I can't remember the last time I went.”

She continued: “I happened to go to the doctor, because I had a concern, and they did a pap smear and lo and behold a week later I am in hospital.

“They said they caught it early, but I am still waiting for the after surgery tests, and hopefully, the doctor said it did not spread, so hopefully I will be okay.”

“Recovering after surgery. I'm. Fine. Very lucky,” she said in the caption. “@cabrinihealth @drtommanolitsis @allmedicalwantirna thank you for looking after me so promptly. God saved me again. Thank you God.”

Fans rushed to share their support, with one writing: “Sending love and well wishes for a speedy recovery.”

Another said: “What?!! Hope you’re okay and have a speedy recovery!!! Glad you got it early xxx.”

“Omg! Thank god they got it early. And you’re recovering. How traumatic for you and the family. Always have to have things checked. Speedy recovery Anastasia,” a third said.

Anastasia appears on Gogglebox with her best friend Faye, with the pair having starred as telly critics since its first season.

As the hit show entered its 21st season earlier this year, the pair told TV Week about their future on the series.

“We’ll be there in our rocking chairs,” Anastasia laughed. “I love everything about it! I love the fact I’m on TV.”
