Harry Styles faces backlash from neighbours over plans for massive mansion

Send Push

Harry Styles’ grand plans for a mega-mansion in Hampstead have created tension with his neighbours, who are becoming concerned about the size and scale of the development.

The former One Direction star, 30, has spent the past few years quietly amassing property in the exclusive north London neighbourhood.

In 2019, he purchased a Grade II listed home for £8.8million, before adding the adjoining house for £4.175million to his portfolio. Last year, he snapped up a third property – and more recently acquired a fourth – with the goal of combining them into a sprawling estate that could rival his pal Ed Sheeran ’s well-known Suffolk compound.

According to planning documents submitted to Camden Council, Styles intends to merge at least two of the homes into one vast residence.

The proposed designs include a master suite with four dressing rooms, a gallery, a drawing room, and a TV lounge. Below ground, a basement is planned to house a cinema, swimming pool, sauna, gym, and even a garden water feature.

Two of Styles’ neighbours have lodged complaints about these plans, claiming the ambitious plans could block natural light into their properties.

A letter from their representatives reads: “My client is also deeply concerned about their private legal Rights to Light that might be infringed by virtue of the implementation of the proposal or a similar scheme of this nature.”

Another local resident told The Daily Telegraph : “It’s sad living next to a building site all the time.” They went on to say that houses in the area are “constantly” being snapped up by millionaires and “redone”, adding that the constant renovations have meant “less community” on the street, with some people even choosing to move away.

In April, Styles was granted conditional permission to combine two of his homes, on the basis that he also made efforts to support local wildlife.

The pop star is planning to add hedgehog houses and bat boxes within the grounds. Representatives for the singer stressed that the project is being handled with care.

In documents filed to the council, they wrote: “The proposed development has been carefully crafted to bring the building back as one of the great Hampstead houses.

“It proposes to amalgamate the two houses, along with internal alterations, extensions to the second, ground and lower ground floors, and extensive landscaping in order to reinstate and provide substantial enhancement to the Grade II listed building.”

They also insisted that community engagement events had taken place, and that the design does not encroach on neighbouring homes’ natural light.

Reports suggest Styles hopes the ambitious project will be completed by October 2027. A source told The Sun: “Harry is giving Ed a run for his money with his North London estate. Two of the homes are being converted into one mega-mansion, while the third sits a way away from them and is a bit of an investment property.

“This fourth new pad could be part of the mega-mansion estate and will be connected to the two houses, which are being knocked through, by a drive and a massive garden. It’s incredible the work Harry is putting into making this dream home.”
