Isack Hadjar breaks first F1 trophy as Dutch GP podium celebrations take toll

The trophy won by Isack Hadjar for his podium finish at the Dutch Grand Prix was broken during the post-race celebrations. It was a red-letter day for the 20-year-old and his Racing Bulls team at Zandvoort as rookie Hadjar finished third to secure the first podium of his Formula 1 career.

That result sparked wild celebrations in parc ferme as the racer jumped into a crowd of his colleagues who were all stomping and cheering with delight. And they continued to do so as Hadjar took his place on the podium for the first time.

The Frenchman did as all racing drivers do, holding his trophy aloft and punching the air before observing the national anthems and then, with winner Oscar Piastri and second-placed Max Verstappen, spraying champagne in celebration of their achievements.

He then returned to the pit lane for more celebrations with team staff and photographs of all trackside personnel together in front of their garage, as has become tradition in F1.

But the images that have emerged from the pit lane show that, amid the melee, Hadjar's porcelain prize was looking worse for wear. The top section of the cup had come away from the base, sparking amused expressions from the racer as well as team principal Alan Permane and chief executive Peter Bayer.

It is not the first time a trophy has been damaged after an F1 race in recent times. Lando Norris infamously shattered the prize won by Max Verstappen after the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix during the wild celebrations on the podium.

The trophy in question was made by the Herend Porcelain Manufactory and took half a year to put together. It also cost a little short of £35,000 to make. The broken trophy was mended and a replacement created which was later presented to Verstappen by Norris.

The Brit also said: "First of all, I do want to apologise for it. I obviously had no intention in ever doing such a thing. I know how much it means to the Hungarians and part of their culture... and I did apologise to Max. I know I made a couple of jokes about which maybe I shouldn't but I do feel bad for [him].

"If he did it to my trophy I'd be annoyed. I do apologise for it and obviously to the people who put the time and effort into making it, I really didn't mean for it to happen. I'll make sure I'm a lot more careful next time."

Verstappen went on to win the title and, of course, it is one of many trophies won by the four-time F1 champion over the years. For Hadjar, this was his first prize in the sport and, should any more come in the future, he will hope to be more careful.
