JK Rowling bizarrely reacts to Emma Watson's olive branch comments amid fallout

Send Push

JK Rowling has responded toEmma Watson after the actress seemingly offered an olive branch to end their feud. Watson, 35, rose to fame as Hermione Granger in the on-screen adaptions of Rowling's Harry Potter books.

But the pair have had an on-going fallout in recent years with Watson fiercely disagreeing with the 60-year-old authors views on the transgender community. Since 2019, Rowling has been very vocal about her beliefs when it comes to the topic, with many of her Twitter/X posts being described as transphobic.

Due to her comments, a number of the cast from the iconic movies have distanced themselves from the creator. Watson previously commented on social media: "Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they aren’t who they say they are."

And the critcism and backlash from the cast led to Rowling saying she would never forgive them. However, while Watson has been vocal with her thoughts, it seems she has offered a way back for the pair.

Speaking to the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast, Watson recently said she will always "cherish" her memories with Rowling. “I really don’t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, mean that I can’t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with,” she said.

“I will never believe that one negates the other, and that my experience of that person I don’t get to keep and cherish. I just don’t think these things are either/or.

"I think it’s my deepest wish that I hope people who don’t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don’t necessarily share the same opinion with.”

And she added that she was most upset with the fact "a conversation was never made possible". But it appears that may be able to happen in the future.

While not directly mentioning the comments, Rowling took to social media to reshare a post. The clip by a satirist who goes by the name Intel Lady showed a video of the latter doing an impression of Watson.

“When it comes to my relationship with Jo, obviously I will never forget the opportunity that she gave me," the mock-up said. "She saw something so, so special in me [and] she knew she had to bring me into her creative vision."

She added: “I will forever be grateful. She changed the entire trajectory of my life and I’ll never forget that […] But also I stand shoulder to shoulder with those who wish harm on her, hate her, and would wish the absolute worst for her in her life.

“Those seemingly incompatible two [views] can exist at the same time, which is why I love this incredibly diverse world that we live in.”

And Rowling shared the clip with the caption: "I'm already missing @intel_lady's Angela Rayner, but I'm here for ALL the spoofs."
