Jose Mourinho stepped in to calm down Benfica supporters after they threw missiles at Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez. The build-up to the Champions League clash between the Portuguese heavyweights and the west Londoners focussed on Mourinho's return to Stamford Bridge.
However, the clash also saw Blues midfielder Enzo Fernandez reunite with his former team, two years after he joined Chelsea for £105million. In the first half, the World Cup winner found himself face-to-face with his former fan base at Stamford Bridge.
As he walked towards them to take a corner, he applauded his former fans. However, they did not appreciate his gesture as many in the away fans responded by throwing missiles at him.

After seeing what was happening, Mourinho left his technical area and marched up towards the away fans with both arms in the air. He was trying to calm the fans down so the match could be restarted.
The Benfica fans did stop hurling objects at Fernandez, but they continued to deride the Argentine every time he touched the ball. Fortunately for Maresca's side, the midfielder did not let the not so warm reception from his former fanbase bother him.
He put in a controlled performance against Mourinho's side, contributing off the ball as well as on it. He has already contributed three goals and one assist in eight appearances in all competitions this season.
His strong start to the campaign follows his impressive showing last season, where he helped himself to nine goals and 17 assists in 53 appearances in all competitions.
