The shooter who fired on multiple people at an immigration centre from a rooftop in Dallas, Texas, killing one person, before then turning the gun on himself has been pictured for the first time.

Joshua Jahn, 29, allegedly shot three detainees at the Dallas ICE facility on Wednesday. Police said that at least four people were shot and one inmate died following the shooting.

The FBI said bullets found next to the gunman were inscribed with anti-ICE messages. Joseph Rothrock, head of the Texas FBI field office, said: "I could also share with you is that early evidence that we’ve seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contain messages that are anti-ICE in nature. Again, this is just the most recent example of this type of attack."

A witness said she heard around 20 shots while she waited for her husband to return from an appointment at the ICE facility. Arianny Sierra was in her car with her nine-year-old son when the gun was fired.

"The shots began at around 6:10am. There were like 20 shots in a row," Sierra told NBC News. "I sheltered myself under the car with my son." Police then arrived and moved them inside the ICE facility.

Sierra said she came to the US with her family to flee violence in her home country. "Thank God my family is OK," she wept.

While the alleged shooters mum told The Independent on the phone while sobbing: “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. But I just can’t talk to you now.”

He added that the FBI is treating the attack as an "act of targeted violence". Speaking at a press conference following the shootings, Senator Ted Cruz warned that political violence "must stop".

"This needs to stop. Violence is wrong. Politically motivated violence is wrong. It was two weeks ago today that we saw a political assassination in Utah that tore the heart out of much of this country."

He added: "To every politician who is using rhetoric demonising ICE and demonising CBP: stop. Politician demanding that ICE agents be doxed and calling for people to go after their families: stop."

Elsewhere, Donald Trump bluntly pointed the blame for this morning's shooting on Democrats. He took to Truth Social to share a message that he has been briefed on the shooting at the ICE field office.

He called it "despicable" that shell casings from the shooting contained anti-ICE messaging. The US president wrote: "The Brave Men and Women of ICE are just trying to do their jobs, and remove the 'WORST of the WORST' Criminals out of our Country, but they are facing an unprecedented increase in threats, violence," before blaming the "Deranged Radical Leftists".
