King's Cross protestor scales clock tower with small dog in tow

A large cordon has been set up in King's Cross after a protester scaled the clock tower with a small dog in tow.

Several police officers are at the scene and a London Fire Brigade cherry picker has been raised to the protester, with crews talking to him. The protester was seen wearing a black t-shirt with the words "no to war," with a banner that said "Iran belongs to its people" draped down the clock tower.

Paramedics were also seen at King's Cross. After speaking with crews, the protester handed a small dog, which appeared to be a pomeranian, he was carrying to them, to cheers from onlookers. The dog was carried back down to the ground.

The incident was widely shared on social media, including the moment fire crews spoke to the man as he held the dog. A cordon was seen being placed around the clock tower with dozens on bystanders looking on.

The front of the station was shut off to passengers. Network Rail said in a post shared to X/Twitter train services were unaffected by the incident, adding it was "supporting emergency services to ensure the situation is resolved safely."

The banner that was unfurled was written in Farsi and English and featured the emblem of the Freedom Movement of Iran, a pro-democracy party that wants to establish separation between the state and religion. 

British Transport Police said its officers were called to the station at about 8am this morning following reports of a person in a precarious position. A spokesperson added: "The incident is ongoing and officers are in attendance alongside other emergency services, working to bring the incident to a safe conclusion."
