An eighties rock legend has revealed his wife has gave birth to the couple's first child. Roland Orzabal, 64, and his wife Emily, 38, became parents to the tot earlier in the summer.

The news was revealed by Roland's Tears for Fears bandmate Curt Smith, who admitted the guitarist's growing brood was the reason behind the band not touring this summer.

Emily Rath Orzabal gave birth in June. A number of her Instagram followers revealed the name in the comments section on one of her posts.

On an image of her pregnant while standing in front of a picturesque back drop, one user wrote: "Congratulations to you & Roland on the birth of Eula ! so happy for you both." Explaining further how they knew the name, they claimed Roland's brother announced it on one of the band's online forums.

And Curt further opened up about the pair's new arrival while chatting with Vulture last month. He said: "We were going to tour this summer, but Roland and his wife had a baby in June.

"So the summer touring obviously was off because you don’t want to be away from home that close to having a baby."

The baby is the musician and photographer's first child together. He also shares two kids, Pascal and Raoul, from his previous marriage to Caroline, who died in 2017 aged 54.

Roland and Emily quietly exchanged marital vows in 2020. At the time they shared their vows on top of Aspen Mountain in Colorado. It came after the Covid-19 pandemic forced them to cancel plans for their original wedding.

Emily shared at the time: “We had to postpone our original wedding date in September 2020 because of Covid. I felt as all corona brides have been feeling: angry, sad, gypped, and confused as to when we should have a wedding.

“Roland and I were in the States for work. We desperately wanted to get married, even just legally, and so to honour our original date, we secretly eloped, just the two of us, atop a mountain in Aspen. It was the most magical moment of my life.

“It breaks my heart that my family could not be there to see it, but no one wanted to risk their safety. Two weddings was never my dream, but we adapted, separating the legal wedding from the celebratory wedding to come.”

She continued: “In September we were able to use the autumnal flowers we'd originally wanted, and next year we can have all of the spring flowers! We got married at 11,212 ft high on Aspen Mountain, whereas next year will be inside an incredible venue."

The following year, the pair had a more lavish ceremony. They were joined by their nearest and dearest at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire for their second wedding.
