Man Utd discover new candidate to replace Ruben Amorim as he makes bold statement

Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmoller has suggested he would like to take over at Manchester United in the future. Toppmoller has only worked in Germany during his coaching career so far but has now openly stated his desire to test himself at United.

Ruben Amorim has been an underwhelming appointment at United and has been unable to shake off the pressure on his job. The Portuguese boss has won just 19 of his 48 matches in charge since taking over from Erik ten Hag last November, finishing a lowly 15th in his debut season.

After losing the Europa League final, Amorim was handed over £200million of new talent in the summer transfer window, but things are yet to improve. United sit 11th in the Premier League table following their second win of the campaign, but recently suffered the embarrassment of defeat by Grimsby in the Carabao Cup.

Amorim retains the support of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos for the time being, but he is only another succession of poor results away from that stance changing. And Toppmoller has thrown his hat into the ring if the United hierarchy do end up looking for a replacement.

“Basically it's a dream to be at Frankfurt. It's simply a fantastic club,” he said on the Phrasenmaeher podcast. “Here, as a teenager, I witnessed for the first time that my father was a Bundesliga coach. That naturally creates an emotional bond with the club.

“Thinking about abroad, I often played computer games as a child, always with one team: Manchester United. That would definitely be nice some day because it's an extraordinary club. When I was a teenager, Manchester United were along with Real Madrid the biggest club of all.”

The former RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich assistant manager has won 46 per cent of his matches since becoming Frankfurt boss in July 2023. He has helped develop stars like Omar Marmoush and Hugo Ekitike, who have both moved to the Premier League in big-money transfers, while establishing Frankfurt in the Champions League.

The 44-year-old is highly regarded in Germany and his side caught the eye by thrashing Galatasaray 5-1 in their first match of the Champions League group phase. They are currently sixth in the Bundesliga having won two and lost two of their opening four games.

Amorim eased some of the pressure on him by beating Chelsea 2-1 in the league on Saturday and now faces key matches before the October international break. United travel to Brentford this weekend before playing Sunderland at Old Trafford the following week.
