'Nail-biting' Cillian Murphy thriller sure to give fans 'adrenaline rush' coming to BBC

Peaky Blinders fans can venture into Cillian Murphy’s life before Tommy Shelby in this ‘intense’ thriller from 20 years ago.

Red Eye sees a hotel manager’s life turned upside down when an enigmatic stranger sits next to her on flight home.

She quickly realises that he is a threat to her own family as he demands she help him in a plot to assassinate a Government official or her father dies.

But the question is how far is she willing to go to protect her loved ones or could there be a way out?

Red Eye will be released this week on Tuesday, September 16, on BBC iPlayer where fans can stream the film for free.

Red Eye may not have the biggest cast but it does feature some of the world ’s biggest stars.

Leading the way as the dangerous stranger is Peaky Blinders’ Tommy Shelby icon Cillian Murphy.

Some of his other biggest roles have been in Oppenheimer, Batman Begins, A Quiet Place Part II, Inception and 28 Years Later.

He is joined by actress Rachel McAdams, famed for starring in both The Notebook and Mean Girls, who portrays the distressed hotel manager Lisa.

Other leading cast members include Succession legend Brian Cox as the dad who Murphy’s character is threatening to kill as well as Glee star Jayma Mays as Lisa’s friend and colleague.

Fans of Red Eye have been taking to Rotten Tomatoes to sing the thriller’s praises since its initial debut in 2005.

“Red Eye is immensely entertaining and a fine example of the classic suspense-thriller”, someone remarked.

Someone else wrote: “When taking place at the airport and on a plane, “Red Eye” is pitch perfect.

“The cloistered space and confined quarters ratchets up the suspense, often to uncomfortable (but welcomed) levels.”

While a third described it as “a classy thriller that scoots along at breakneck speed.”
