Team Europe star sends perfect response to Ryder Cup fans' weight insults

Ryder Cup hero Robert MacIntyre has goaded US fans and told them to keep the insults coming following Europe's win on foreign soil. The Scottish golfer was the final man home over the weekend as he halved the day against Sam Burns to finalise a 15-13 victory.

MacIntyre, 29, like many of his team-mates, faced ahostile crowd at Bethpage Black in New York, but put in a strong performance to record a second Ryder Cup win. The Oban-born star has cheekily combined some of his Ryder Cup highlights with the criticisms that came his way in New York.

"Keep them coming," MacIntyre posted on Instagram, accompanied by a kissing emoji. The golfing star also tagged the European Ryder Cup team page and followed it with heart and trophy emojis.

Alongside some precision putts, MacIntyre overlaid some of the comments he received. "Eat another burger Bobby", "Milk bottle", "Bobby Mac & Cheeese", and "When you starting Ozempic?" all featured.

The US Open runner-up included Gala's 'Freed From Desire' in the video and footage of himself lifting the Ryder Cup. Team Europe have taken on the song and adapted it to a catchy "Europe's on Fire!" chant.

The atmosphere at Bethpage Black was a major talking point of the three-day event. US fans targeted Rory McIlroy in particular as they attempted to disrupt and gain an advantage over the European side.

On one occasion, McIlroy refused to putt his ball as he was hollered at by the American crowd. The environment sparked the Northern Irishman into telling fans to "shut the f*** up" before he produced an exacting shot to land his ball on the green.

Asked about that confrontation, McIlroy said in a press conference that it felt: 'Pretty f****** good,' to deliver such a shot.

However, McIlroy's wife, Erica Stoll, was also targeted by US fans. The 38-year-old was hit with beer at the event.

McIlroy has since insisted that golf should be held to a 'higher standard'. European Ryder Cup team captain Luke Donald stated that the incident crossed the line.

Donald has already faced questions over whether he could be captain of the team in two years time. "My answer is I'm going to enjoy tonight," he said.

But, explaining what made the win possible, he added: "Well, having a repeat captain for one. I was just fortunate to have a team that knew me and trusted me. That's all I've ever tried to do is just be the best prepared I can be.

"So many different things I went into this deal with, the environment, the communication with the players. But yeah, I'm so, so, happy for them."
