Thomas Tuchel has admitted that Marcus Rashford struggles to 'wow' in an England shirt after he and several others failed to impress against Andorra at Wembley. The Manchester United forward got a fresh start this summer when he clinched a dream loan to Barcelona after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim.
But Rashford has endured a poor start to life in Catalonia. The 27-year-old has started just one out of the club’s opening three league games, while he was taken off at half-time during last month’s win against Levante. He is yet to contribute to a goal and that has led to suggestions in Spain that Barcelona could attempt to cancel the loan agreement for the forward early.
He was unable to make the most of an opportunity to open his account for the season as England stumbled to an underwhelming 2-0 win over Andorra on Saturday, with Tuchel keeping faith in the forward since taking the helm as the Three Lions boss.
However, even the German admits that Rashford has struggled to live up to his potential in an England shirt. "He struggles a bit with numbers and with the ‘wow’ performance in an England shirt, I agree,” Tuchel said post-match.

“But as long as he trains like he did and behaves and is active and alive in the group, then we will always trust him and push him and support him. I can see that he tries, this is for me the most important that he stays positive and he trains at the moment with the right attitude, with a smile and with a lot of quality."
Elsewhere, Rashford has already given his verdict on his slow start to life with Barcelona, and admitted that he was still off the pace when it came to the fitness. He said: “The intensity here is very high.
“Preseason has been tough; I finished exhausted after every session. It’s not just about running—it’s about working with the ball and keeping a constant level. That’s what really takes the most effort.”

After starting against Andorra, Rashford will certainly hope to earn more minutes in the Three Lions’ next outing against Serbia on Tuesday. Attention will then turn back to Barcelona, the Catalan giants next in action against Valencia.
Rashford will then get the opportunity to return to England as Barcelona take on Newcastle at St James’ Park in their first Champions League fixture of the season.
