A TikToker has been forced to deny that she is a British law student jailed for life in Dubaiafter allegedly being caught with 50g of cocaine.

Mia O’Brien, a British woman who posts on social media, has recently seen an influx of new people flood to her TikTok page accusing her of being in jail in Dubai. The TikToker shares the same name as young British student Mia O'Brien, who handed a life sentence and jailed for 25 years after she was allegedly found with £2,500 worth of the Class A drug in October.

Law student Mia, from Liverpool, pleaded not guilty but was sent to Dubai Central Prison, where she is living with six other inmates. The two women's same name has led to confusion on social media as TikToker Mia's latest post has been filled with people who appear to have confused her with the young Brit in the news.

The TikToker's comment section saw several people ask her if she was locked up in Dubai. One person said: "U not in jail." Another person wrote: "Is this how Dubai jail looks like ?"

TikToker Mia set the record straight and responded to one of these commenters to clarify that she was not the same person. A TikToker asked: "why didn't you research the laws of Dubai." Mia responded: "I’m not in prison", and added a read heart emoji at the end of her message.

The name confusion was realised by someone who commented: "Anyone looking for Dubai girl???" Another TikToker responded and said: "Your view count’s about to go up."

This comes after 23-year-old British student also called Mia O'Brien was convicted on July 25, fined £100,000, and sent to the infamous Dubai Central prison, after a one-day hearing. Mia was arrested when 50g of cocaine was allegedly found inside her apartment in "one big chunk".

She was arrested alongside her friend and her pal's boyfriend - all three were charged with drug dealing. Mia's mum, Danielle McKenna, originally set up a GoFundMe to raise money to try and bring her daughter back home but the page was removed on Friday for violating community rules.

A spokesperson for GoFundMe, on the original fundraiser being deleted, said: "It was removed because it violates Term 9 of the Prohibited Conduct section in our Terms of Service. Term 9 prohibits raising funds on GoFundMe for the legal defence of certain alleged crimes."

Now, the mum has shared her bank details on Facebook and asked people to donate money to her directly. Danielle said: "I am going to set up my own, as they [GoFundMe] are nitpicking at everything."

The mum then said direct donations would allow her to keep all the money instead or giving a cut to GoFundMe. She added: "I would just like to thank everyone."

In the original GoFundMe page, the heartbroken mum wrote: "Mia is only 23 years old and has never done a bad thing in her life. This is a young girl, who went to university to do law, and unfortunately got mixed up in the wrong so-called friends and made a very stupid mistake and is now paying the price."
