Yellowstone's Kelly Reilly 'unrecognisable' in first-look at new role away from Beth and Rip spin-off

Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly looks almost unrecognisable from her role as Beth Dutton in an upcoming crime drama releasing on Sky next year.

The British star is best known for portraying the tough-as-nails rancher and daughter of John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) in the smash-hit Paramount Network drama.

Ahead of Reilly’s return alongside Cole Hauser as Beth’s husband Rip Wheeler in an upcoming spin-off, the actress has lined up her next project in the form of the six-part thriller, Under Salt Marsh.

Reilly portrays ex-detective Jackie Ellis opposite Rafe Spall as her estranged partner Eric Bull in this gripping drama set in the fictional close-knit Welsh town of Morfa Halen.

The pair are forced to work together again when startling new evidence is found that opens a cold case.

In first-look stills released today (Wednesday, 24th September), Reilly looks very different from her role as Beth, especially in one still that showcases her vulnerability as she searches the wilderness with a torch in the pouring rain.

Another image showcases Jackie and Eric’s reluctant partnership as they reunite on the picturesque Welsh coast.

A synopsis for the series reads: “Former detective turned teacher Jackie Ellis makes a shocking discovery that reopens the wounds of a three-year-old cold case which cost her both her career and her family’s trust.

“Forced to reunite with her estranged police partner Eric Bull, Jackie is drawn back into an investigation that will shake Morfa Halen to its core.

“Together, they must confront a community haunted by secrets and fractured by grief, before the incoming storm washes away the evidence forever.”

The must-watch upcoming drama is created, written and directed by Claire Oakley, the visionary behind the acclaimed feature film Make Up.

Sky’s logline for the drama adds “Under Salt Marsh blends atmospheric crime storytelling with a deeply human portrait of resilience and community.”

Alongside Reilly and Spall is an incredible supporting cast, including The Crown and Slow Horses’ Jonathan Pryce and Industry’s Harry Lawtey.

Also in recurring roles are Naomi Yang, Dinita Gohil, Brian Gleeson and Kimberley Nixon.

The drama will be one of Reilly’s first projects since wrapping up the fifth and final season of Yellowstone last December, though she is soon set to return in an upcoming spin-off, tentatively titled The Dutton Ranch.

Under Salt Marsh premieres in 2026 on Sky and NOW. Yellowstone is available to stream on Paramount+.
