The statement came amid the tariff war

Trump's statement has come at a time when there is a tussle with India over tariffs. The timing is also interesting because the SCO meeting has just concluded in Tianjin, China between 31st and 1st September. In which India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin also participated. After this, Putin was also seen on the same stage with Jinping in China's military parade on 3rd September.

50 percent tariff imposed on India

Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on India. His reasoning behind this was that India buys oil from Russia, so this tariff has been increased as a punishment. Trump had said on Wednesday itself that he has imposed a 50% tariff on India because for a long time there was a one-sided relationship between the two countries. In a press briefing, Trump said that India imposes a 100% tariff on American goods. This is the highest in the world.
