Amid growing tensions over seat-sharing within the Grand Alliance, the Congress has decided to step in and inject momentum into the Bihar Assembly election campaign. To strengthen coordination and energize grassroots efforts, the party has directed its Uttar Pradesh (UP) organizational units to actively participate in campaigning across Bihar’s border districts.
Confusion over seat distribution had persisted until the last moment, creating dissatisfaction among alliance partners. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which had initially announced its intention to contest, eventually withdrew after failing to secure the desired number of seats. Similarly, Mukesh Sahni’s VIP party expressed displeasure over limited allocations. The absence of joint rallies between Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav has further highlighted internal rifts. With several senior Congress leaders discontent over ticket distribution, enthusiasm within the alliance has waned.
To revive the campaign, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge and former President Rahul Gandhi have instructed UP’s organizational teams to extend their support to the Grand Alliance candidates in neighboring Bihar districts. As per the directive, the Congress team from Maharajganj will campaign in West Champaran, Kushinagar’s team in Gopalganj, and Gorakhpur’s in East Champaran. Similarly, Deoria’s team will assist in Siwan, while Mau, Ballia, Ghazipur, Varanasi, and Chandauli units will focus on Bhojpur, Saran, Rohtas, Buxar, and Kaimur respectively.
Other assignments include Ayodhya and Prayagraj units working in Patna, Basti in Gopalganj, Ambedkar Nagar in Bhojpur, Sultanpur in Rohtas, Jaunpur in Vaishali, Kaushambi in Nalanda, Bhadohi in Jehanabad, Mirzapur in Gaya, and Sonbhadra in Aurangabad.
Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have reportedly taken the initiative to smooth over internal friction within the alliance. Their efforts seem to be showing results, as a joint press conference of the Grand Alliance is scheduled in Patna on Thursday. It is expected that leaders will publicly acknowledge earlier coordination issues, announce the withdrawal of overlapping candidates, and unveil a united front for the remaining phases of the campaign.
