The fierce gunbattle between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district has stretched into its second day. The operation, which began on Monday, resumed early Tuesday morning as the search for remaining militants continues in the Guddar forest area.
So far, two terrorists have been killed — one of whom is suspected to be a Pakistani national, identified by the alias Rehman Bhai. Unfortunately, two Indian Army personnel — Subedar Parbhat Gaud and Lance Naik Narendra Sindhu — have lost their lives in the ongoing operation. An Army Major was also injured but is reported to be in stable condition.
Gunfire Erupts During Search MissionThe encounter began when a joint team comprising the Army, CRPF, and local police launched a search operation following intelligence inputs indicating terrorist presence in the dense Guddar forest of Kulgam. As the forces advanced, they came under sudden fire from the hiding militants, triggering a prolonged gunfight.
Sacrifice and ValorSubedar Gaud and Lance Naik Sindhu sustained critical injuries during the exchange and later succumbed. Paying tribute, the Army’s Chinar Corps posted on social media:
Joint Operation and Continuing Search"We salute the brave hearts Sub Parbhat Gaud and Lance Naik Narendra Sindhu, who laid down their lives in the line of duty. Their bravery and commitment to the nation will never be forgotten."
The security operation, coordinated between the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army, and CRPF, remains active as forces comb through the forested area for any remaining militants. DGP Nalin Prabhat visited the site of the encounter and commended the combined forces for their swift action and bravery.
Details on the MilitantsPreliminary information suggests that one of the neutralized terrorists was a local resident, while the other was a foreign fighter. Authorities believe the foreign terrorist operated under the codename Rehman Bhai.
