'Malegaon Files' Announced: Film to Portray 2008 Blast Case, Shooting Begins Late 2025

Send Push

Producer Sahil Seth has officially announced ‘Malegaon Files’, a film based on the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast, under his banner Cinedust 18 Films Pvt. Ltd. The movie will be directed by Rajiv S Ruia, known for films like My Friend Ganesha.

A Sensitive and Politically Charged Subject

The 2008 Malegaon blast, which killed 6 people and injured over 100, remains one of India's most politically sensitive terrorism cases. Initially, Islamic organizations were blamed, but later investigations pointed toward Hindu extremist links, leading to the arrest of high-profile names like Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit. All seven accused were eventually acquitted by the court.

Aim: Realism Without Sensationalism

The film, currently in pre-production, aims to approach the subject with sensitivity and factual depth. It will explore:

  • The aftermath of the blast

  • The emotional and legal struggles of both victims and the accused

  • Alleged custodial torture

  • The role of investigative agencies and political influence

According to the makers, the script is being crafted from court documents, investigation reports, and real testimonies to maintain authenticity and fairness.

Makers Speak

Director Rajiv S Ruia shared:

“This isn’t just a story of a blast—it’s about the storm that followed, the human toll, and the search for truth.”

Producer Sahil Seth added:

“We are not aiming for sensationalism, but to provoke thought. The truth will not be compromised.”

Shooting and Release

The film is expected to go on floors by late 2025, with a cast likely to feature critically acclaimed actors. More updates on casting and production are awaited.
