Actress Sonam Kapoor took only 11 rupees to do this film, which even surprised the director of the film. Sonam Kapoor played a small but important role of Biro in the film. In an old interview given to Bombay Times, director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra explained why Sonam Kapoor decided to take only 11 rupees as a fee. He said, "I talked to Sonam and clearly told her that her role in the film would be about 15 minutes. I did not even know whether she would be in the trailer or poster or not."

Mehra further said, "Sonam listened to me and jokingly said, 'The film must be made, and I will charge you a lot of money.' Later, her contract came, in which the fee was just Rs 11 as shagun. She gave a lot of dignity to this role."

Talking about the importance of the film, director Rakesh Omprakash Mehra said, "Some stories never get old, but become deeper with time. 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' is one such story. It is not just relevant for that time, but is relevant forever." The film also featured Sonam Kapoor, Divya Dutta, Pawan Malhotra, and Yograj Singh in lead roles along with Farhan Akhtar. The film 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' performed amazingly at the box office.
