Employees affected by layoffs expressed their pain

An employee from the Oracle database team said, "It all happened in less than 20 minutes. A Zoom invite, my manager on the call, and then the HR officer telling me I was being fired. He said it was not because of my performance but purely for business reasons. My system access was cut off immediately. I was also supposed to get stock benefits in February, but now I have lost them too."

Another employee said he attended a meeting thinking it was a business update, but later found out it was a layoff call. "The HR officer only talked about the layoff package," he said.

1 thousand employees will be employed from India

Oracle layoffs mostly affect employees from the cloud team. This includes engineering, data center operations and AI teams in both India and the US. Some reports suggest that about 10% of Oracle's employees in India (around 1 thousand) may have been affected, although the company has not confirmed the exact number.

The trend is similar globally. Tech news site CRN reported that more than 300 people were recently laid off in California and Washington. At the same time, Oracle is investing heavily in artificial intelligence. The company has signed a major deal with OpenAI to build huge new data center capacity in the US.
