Alejandro Garnacho has made a brilliant first impression at Chelsea. The 21-year-old winger, who departed Manchester United at the conclusion of the summer transfer window, has impressed at Cobham training ground over recent days.

Shortly after penning a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge, Enzo Maresca threw Garnacho straight in at the deep end. The Chelsea coaching staff were keen to assess the Argentina international's fitness levels, so he was handed various strength and conditioning exercises to complete.

Garnacho and Facundo Buonanotte, whom the Blues secured from Brighton on loan on deadline day, began in the gym before joining their new colleagues on the pitch. When the pair linked up with Maresca's squad, they were subjected to a gruelling running drill.

In footage shared across the club's social media platforms, Garnacho looked shattered. Unmoved by the exercise, Wesley Fofana showed little compassion for the Argentine and said: "Welcome to Chelsea Football Club.

"I can't move my legs now, man," replied Garnacho. The former United winger seems to have buckled down in west London, with his dedication and attitude being noticed.

Speaking to journalists at Cobham on Friday morning, Maresca lavished praise on Garnacho, hinting that he could make his bow against Brentford this weekend.

The Chelsea manager said: "He's working well. For sure he needs to work because he arrived here probably not 100 per cent fit. So he needs to work. He's working well and we'll see. But hopefully soon we can give him minutes."

Garnacho spoke to the official club website following his switch from Old Trafford to Stamford Bridge at the end of last month, declaring: "I have a winning mentality. I have passion and a big personality.

"It's a natural fit with a club like Chelsea, which have just won the Club World Cup. Chelsea are at the top now, and it's important to fight for the club like the fans deserve. I watched the Club World Cup, and to join the world champions is special - it means we're the best team in the world!".

"It's not common to have played a lot of games at this age, but it has helped me a lot. I'm only 21 and I have a lot of experience from these different types of games, stadiums and moments."

Garnacho had been a key player under Ruben Amorim before being unexpectedly benched for the Europa League final. The winger had featured in every previous knockout match in the tournament, making the decision all the more surprising and raising questions about his future.

Then, the United manager excluded him entirely from the matchday squad for the Premier League season finale. A few days later, Garnacho was told he could depart - and promptly sealed a £40million transfer to Chelsea.
