When Evangelos Marinakis stormed out of the Nottingham Forest owner's box just after the hour mark of his side's 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, his mind was made up. The Greek supremo may not have even seen Reece James' late goal, compounding Ange Postecoglou's fate, with the head coach sacked after just 39 days in charge.
But as Marinakis pores over the decision to hire a third manager this season, there is no need to look further than himself as the culprit for the mess Forest have been left in. Just a few months ago, they secured European football and praise was lavished on Nuno Espirito Santo for the job he had done.
Fast forward to October 18, he was dismissed, largely after falling out with Marinakis and publicly complaining about recruitment. Edu had been brought in from Arsenal to oversee operations as Global Head of Football.
They then decided on Postecoglou, who just over a month ago Marinakis described as someone "who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies. His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions."
The writing was on the wall quickly after Forest's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal just four days later. Postecoglou did not win a single of his eight games in charge, but had been left with a squad that his predecessor was not happy with and evidently - a trigger-happy owner.
Marinakis has almost single-handedly taken Forest from the envy of most Premier League clubs to a team with more than an eye on the relegation places.
And while attention now turns to their next head coach, with Sean Dyche, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag all linked, Forest may have a job convincing any of them to take over.
The Daily Mail claim that there are issues over persuading Dyche concerning the length of any potential contract, and who could blame any coach from having reservations.
Forest's next eight games feature trips to Liverpool and Bournemouth, a home match with Manchester United on November 1 and three Europa League ties.
If they can't get the team performing before Christmas, what is to stop Marinakis from sacking them?
There is plenty of talent at the club, namely Elliott Anderson, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Murillo, but any manager knows they would be walking in under extreme pressure and no transfer window or pre-season to help mould the squad in their image.
Teams have often been accused of sleepwalking to relegation, but Forest, thanks to Marinakis, are marching in that direction with bells and whistles on.
