CNN issued a stark warning about President Trump's role in the escalating war in Ukraine on Monday, suggesting that his next move could have devastating consequences not only for Kyiv, but also for global security. In a tense new "breaking news" report, CNN highlighted a "remarkable Oval Office blowout" between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The extraordinary moment reportedly saw Trump "berating" the Ukrainian leader in front of officials, sparking fears that the relationship between Washington and Kyiv was "done... beyond and on the rocks".

The network then revealed that Moscow may have exploited the diplomatic freeze to regroup, using the pause to "buy time for success in the summer offensive". CNN warned: "It's hard to understate how close to a significant change the Eastern front line is now, following incremental and proper Russian progress over the past weeks."

Ukraine is reportedly "struggling to hold back Russian advances" and "having difficulty acquiring the weapons it needs". CNN described the mood in Kyiv as potentially shocked in recent weeks by how Trump's tone has soured toward Russia, especially following a concerning "exchange of nuclear submarines on Friday".

The report also raised significant questions about Trump's next steps, with sources suggesting he faces a crucial choice: to either intensify economic pressure, even if that means implementing damaging sanctions against China and India which would negatively impact the U.S. economy, or to shift towards diplomacy and seek "some kind of bilateral meeting with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin".

"These decisions are critical for him," CNN emphasised, before warning: "He has set deadlines for himself, initially establishing a 50-day timeline and then shortening it to this Friday or Saturday. These choices will define the course of the war."

CNN concluded with a chilling forecast: "A very key week here, which will potentially drag India and China further into this war by the economic damage done against them for their support."

Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff was expected in Moscow midweek, just before Trump's Friday deadline for the Kremlin to stop the killing or face potentially severe economic penalties from Washington.

Witkoff is expected to land in the Russian capital on Wednesday or Thursday, according to Trump, following his trip to Israel and Gaza."They would like to see (Witkoff)," Trump said Sunday of the Russians. "They've asked that he meet, so we'll see what happens."
