A star of Disney Plus' Rivals is unrecognisable in 'heartwarming' drama coming to BBC iPlayer.

In an unprecedented move, the series Trying will be accessible on the BBC iPlayer from next week.

Previously, this show was exclusively available only to those with an Apple TV+ subscription, the platform for which it was originally produced.

This marks the first time that the BBC has acquired the rights to a show created by the company behind the iPhone and Ted Lasso.

According to Deadline, the broadcaster has secured the first three seasons with an option for additional instalments, as the show gears up to premiere its fifth season on its original streaming service.

The synopsis for the show's inaugural season reveals that all Nikki and Jason desire is a baby, the one thing they can't have. Consequently, they opt to adopt but their dysfunctional friends, eccentric families and chaotic lives might convince the adoption panel that they're not ready to become parents.

The series, which kicked off in 2020, stars Rafe Spall and Esther Smith in the main roles. They are joined by an impressive cast including Oliver Chris from Rivals and Motherland, and Imelda Staunton from The Crown, reports the Mirror.

Overall, the series boasts a stellar 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with numerous critics lauding its handling of a delicate subject and declaring the show to be compulsive viewing.

Whilst it remains distinctly an Apple production, BBC Studios Comedy Productions played a crucial role in bringing it to fruition.

Since its debut, it has emerged as the streaming platform's most enduring comedy offering.

Producer Josh Cole is now savouring the prospect of the series reaching an even broader audience.

He remarked: "Trying isn't attempting to be the most boisterous programme, but it's one that viewers genuinely become deeply enamoured with - I'm delighted it will be discovered by an entirely fresh viewership."

Countless devotees who have followed the show from its inception have voiced their endorsements.

One viewer simply declared: "Each episode got better and better. Absolutely brilliant show. Looking forward to the next series."

Meanwhile, another contributed: "This outstanding series is highly addictive so be careful."

Someone else expressing their views maintained: "One of the best shows on Apple TV+. The writing is top notch. I don't know any of these actors, and I think that makes it better. They are all great. The tone is perfect as they strike a perfect balance between comedy and drama, laughter and heartwarming or sadness. Highly recommended!".

One viewer confessed: "This series is absolutely fantastic. I cried during every episode. It's funny, entertaining and emotional. The writing is genius. I loved the whole series."

Trying is streaming on Apple TV+ now and BBC iPlayer from September 15.
