Donald Trump appeared to stand behind bulletproof glass as he made an appearance at the Ryder Cup to huge cheers from vibrant Team USA supporters.

Several people have taken to X to react. One wrote: "I imagine President Trump becomes the first ever person to watch the Ryder Cup through bulletproof glass." A second person commented: "Fighter planes flying overhead, a USA hooting crowd, the national anthem and Trump behind bulletproof glass. What else but the OTT Ryder Cup." Another tweeted: "Donald Trump sitting behind bulletproof proof glass at the Ryder Cup hhahahahahhaa."

Trump arrived at the Ryder Cup, being held at Bethpage Black in New York, alongside his granddaughter Kai, 18, on Friday afternoon (September 26). He received a raucous reception from the crowd who chanted cries of "USA".

He walked to the grandstand behind the first tee box before taking his position behind the bulletproof glass located around 20 feet away from the players' entrance tunnel. The President greeted a line of dignitaries before the national anthem was sung.

His appearance has prompted tight security measures for the event between USA and Europe this weekend. As well as the bulletproof glass, there are a number of security points around the golf course, including near the clubhouse and first tee area.

Drones, bomb-disposal dogs and radiological units have also been deployed at the event. Spectators, who have had to pay around $750 each, have also been banned from bringing in certain items such as ladders, laptops, knives, golf clubs and coolers.

It's not the first time the US President has appeared behind bulletproof glass for protection. He was injured in an attempted assassination at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, last summer.

Trump was left with a bloodied ear after the shooting. The Secret Service then confirmed that it would use bulletproof glass to protect him at future outdoor events.

The shooter, Ryan Routh, was found guilty on all charges related to the attempted assassination this week. The 59-year-old was caught during a manhunt in Palm Beach last September.

Earlier this month, right-wing activist Charlie Kirk was fatally shot at an outdoor debate at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Tyler Robinson, 22, has since been charged with his murder.
