Film fans 'can't wait' for actor-director duo to team up for remake of beloved thriller

Film fans have shared their delight after learning Spike Lee and Denzel Washington are teaming up to star in a remake of a well-loved thriller.The actor-director duo has sparked a frenzy on social media as movie lovers eagerly wait for Highest 2 Lowest to hit the cinemas on August 15 before its release on Apple TV+ on September 5.

The trailer to the 2 hour and 13 minute movie has dropped on YouTube - and fans simply can't wait to see what the duo will bring. Its IMDb storyline reads: "When a titan music mogul (Denzel Washington), widely known as having the 'best ears in the business', is targeted with a ransom plot, he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma.

"Brothers Denzel Washington and Spike Lee reunite for the 5th in their long working relationship for a reinterpretation of the great filmmaker Akira Kurosawa's crime thriller High and Low, now played out on the mean streets of modern day New York City."

Commenting on the trailer, one YouTube user said: "Wild how Denzel delivering a monologue with some nice music is more exciting than a lot of bombastic trailers that come out nowadays. Really looking forward to this."

Another user added: "The fact Denzel only has two academy awards is a crime."

Spike Lee and Denzel Washington have collaborated ion four films including Mo' Better Blues in 2990, Malcom X in 1992, He Got Game in 1998, and Inside Man in 2006.

The 1963 movie High and Low, originally called Tengoku to jigoku, is ranked as IMDb's top 79 movie of all time and has won three awards and three nominations.

Its plot follows a wealthy businessman who is told about his son's kidnap. He is told he'll have to pay a very large sum for him to be returned safely.

It adds: "It is then discovered that his son is safe at home: the kidnapper took his chauffeur's son by accident.

"The kidnapper says this makes no difference: pay up or the child dies. This leaves him with a moral dilemma, as he really needs the money to conclude a very important business deal."
